Spring 2023 Session Information!
The Charlotte Performing Arts Center, as part of its Arts For Youth Program, is proud to announce assessment dates for the Spring 2023 session of the Prelude Choir! Prelude membership is available to all current 4th through 8th graders in the greater Charlotte area who love to sing!
The Prelude Choir is under the direction of Zach Everly, director of choral music with Charlotte Public Schools. Everly explains, “Charlotte and the surrounding communities have such a rich history of excellence in the choral arts. The primary goal of this program is to bring young voices from multiple schools together and allow them an additional outlet for their musical talents in an environment outside of the curricular music classroom. While our focus is mainly performance, they will also be strengthening the musicianship skills they are already learning from their music teachers.”
Interested singers will be asked to do a 10-minute vocal assessment on either February 28 or March 1 between 3pm and 5pm. To sign up for a time, visit the CPAC website listed in this article. If you cannot make it during that time, but are still interested, reach out to Mr. Everly to make alternate arrangements. Vocal assessments will take place in the CHS Choir Room, enter through the CPAC front entrance. Returning Prelude members (those who participated in the Fall 2022 session) do NOT need to complete a vocal assessment with Mr. Everly. All participants need to complete the Contact Info Form, which is located on the CPAC website at www.charlotteperformingartscenter.com/prelude.
Rehearsals will begin Tuesday, March 7 from 4:00 - 5:15 in the CMS Choir Room (note the different location from the vocal assessments). Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays, with a few exceptions. A schedule will be provided.
In line with CPAC’s Arts for Youth Onstage Experience program, all Prelude Choir participants will be asked to pay a participation fee of $30 (current CPS students) or $50 (non-CPS students) to help cover program costs. All performance music and performance shirts will be provided. There will be a discount given to Fall 2022 Prelude members who sign-up for the Spring session, as well as current Charlotte Middle School students enrolled in choir through the school.
Visit the CPAC website at www.charlotteperformingartscenter.com/prelude for information and to sign up for a vocal assessment!
